What About Digestion?

Hello again Natural Health Family. I imagine you are all well or getting better. This month we are starting off with digestion. Like many of the processes the body performs every second of every minute of every day, digestion is one that we only notice if it’s not working properly. The cause of something not working properly could be many, nonetheless the pain or symptom stems from the body not being balanced.  Now you might think what causes an unbalancing of the body? Many things can cause the body to become unbalanced but typically it comes down to three different categories. One category can be the foods that we eat. I think that many know that when we eat certain foods too much of the time including very sugary and processed foods then we can start to have some issues. This is not saying that those foods are bad but when eaten in excess can be too much for our body to process. The second would be physical aspects. This could include traumas such as falling on the grou...

Digestion Month

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation-                 Well, we are having some good weather and some bad weather and I think that’s normal for March. The warm days sure are a nice reminder that we will have more of those coming up. I think the grounds pretty well thawed out and that’s great for getting the ground to settle down and hopefully greening up in a while. Now we can start talking about spring allergies-ha. We used to have a magnolia tree in front of the Payson office and I hope they do well this year because they are so pretty. The problem is they bud out early and usually get froze off. I guess we’ll see what the weather brings us.                 The month of March brings us a new topic in our discussions for our health classes and this month we talking about Diet. This week were talking about Digestion Essentials, which...

Does Your Farmed Salmon Contain This Chemical?

STORY AT-A-GLANCE Fish farms are the water-based equivalents of land-based concentrated animal feeding operations, and as such they create the same, if not worse, environmental concerns Since the salmon pens are placed along wild salmon runs, they pose a severe threat to wild salmon that pass by, exposing wild fish to diseases such as piscine reovirus, which now threatens wild salmon with extinction Toxicology testing reveals farmed salmon is one of the most toxic foods in the world — more than five times more toxic than any other food tested, with eight times higher PCB levels than wild salmon One of the reasons farmed salmon contain higher levels of toxins than wild is because their feed can be highly contaminated. Another is because they contain far higher levels of fat, which binds to and accumulates toxins A chemical of particular concern found in farmed salmon (but not in wild) is ethoxyquin — a rubber stabilizer, pesticide, preservative and antioxidant all in one, and a su...

The Whole Picture

Welcome back Natural Health Family. It is still heart health month this February (the last day today) so we will go over more about the heart. We have discussed briefly what the heart can do for the rest of the body. Moreover, let’s consider the possible factors that could affect the heart that may cause issues in the first place. When it comes to our bodies, the heart is a valuable part. However, many times we want to focus on one part of the body rather than looking at all the parts. The human body is an amazing “machine” and everything is connected. The heart, just like other organs of the body, can be seen as a reflection of the whole health of the body. So in that way we may consider not just addressing one part of the body but what may affect the whole body in general.  So what does affect or influence the health of the body? We can put it into a couple categories to help our minds to understand. The three are as follows: nutrition/chemical, physical, & thought...

40 Years ago in March

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation-                 I t was a pretty nice weekend, all in all. No more snow and was nice to have the sunshine and a little warmer temperatures. Looks like this week will be even warmer and hopefully were climbing out of winter. It’s really easy to notice that the days are growing longer and that’s a positive sign of spring coming, plus the birds are sure flying around and chirping in the morning. It will be great to be outside more and get the vitamin D activated with good warm sunshine soon.                 It’s still February so were talking about heart issues. Our health shop this week will be looking at heart issues and repair. There seems to be a lot of heart issues out there now with the myocarditis and pericarditis issues. I’ve seen mainstream doctors talk about not being able to repair this but we do it all the time he...

Top 5 Signs of Vitamin D Deficiency

STORY AT-A-GLANCE Top 5 signs you may have a vitamin D deficiency that you will notice as an individual include ongoing musculoskeletal pain, frequent or intense colds and flus, neurological symptoms such as depression, impaired cognition and headaches, unrelenting fatigue and head sweating As a society, three key things that indicate a vitamin D deficiency are increasing or stable rates of the incidence of breast cancer, the increase in the number of preterm births and, now, an increase in the incidence of Type 1 diabetes An estimated 40% of Americans are profoundly vitamin D deficient, defined as having a serum level below 20 ng/mL (50 nmol/L); 75% of American adults and teens are deficient when a sufficiency level of 30 ng/mL is used. If the sufficiency cutoff is moved to a healthy 40 to 60 ng/mL (100 to 150 nmol/L), as recommended by the GrassrootsHealth panel of 48 vitamin D researchers, deficiency rates in the U.S. would likely be in the high 90% bracket 20 ng/mL is grossly...
