A Wired Brain & Gut Connection

Well hello everyone. Another beautiful week in front of us that is all up for the taking. It all comes down to how we individually approach the day that will transform our life in the direction we want. I am starting to do my blogs a little different. They are going off of the HealthShop that we have on Monday nights. Some people are visual learners and some love reading, either way, I would love to tailor to everyone's needs.  You have heard me talk about this before, but I want to go over how the brain is wired as it relates to the gut-brain connection. I always go back to this autonomic nervous system because it's so important to get the fundamental idea as it relates to the body, the brain, and emotions. We have two different systems within the body, the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system gets the body ready to go for more stressful situations as it flashes a flood of hormones that boosts the body's alertn...

Communication

Natural Health Family, how is everyone doing? I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend and got some sunshine. Today let’s talk about communication and why it is important in our lives and for our own health.  Last weekend I explored Colorado. I went snowboarding and hiked a good amount also. I learned a lot just by getting out in nature and noticing different aspects of the forest and parks. One characteristic of the forest that I found interesting was the aspen trees. It appeared that they would appear sporadically in the forest and in groups. I was curious and wanted to learn more about them. I found out that the different aspen trees or tree trunks are not separate but they actually function as one tree. The roots of the tree are well connected so that they are able to communicate and act as one organism. I found this interesting because we tend to think that the whole tree is only about what is on the surface of the ground rather than all the roots and connections...

What Does Health Mean To You?

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation-             Another great weekend but it’s starting to get dry. The temperatures were nice but it looks like it’s going to get warmer this week. Don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and getting some sea salt or mineral salt in the diet. It seems that every year when school starts it gets hot but it won’t last long. Fall is just around the corner and it’s a great time of year too.             Our theme for this month has been on brain health and in our health shop this week were talking about hydration and exercise. I love to talk about salt because people have been told for so long that salt is bad for them because of blood pressure issues, and while that may be somewhat true for processed salt, our bodies need good quality mineral salt or sea salt for the kidneys to work correctly, and many other functions...

What is Health?

Hello again to all the great people of the Natural Health family. Today I wanted to discuss briefly two ways that one could look at health. One way to see it could be that the world is filled with different things that can harm you and that you are a victim to this unforgiving world. Another way to see it is that you are a powerful beyond measure capable of defending yourself from any outside influence. Let’s dive into why these two views are not right or wrong but need context to be understood.  We know that there are different things in our environment such as bacteria and viruses that can be harmful to us IF we are not able to adapt to the “bug.” For instance a person (not allergic to bees)  gets stung by one bee can have some mild swelling and be able to recover from it fairly well. However, if that same person were to get swarmed and stung by many bees then it could have life threatening effects. This is because the person was overloaded and not able to adapt to ...

Brain Health

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation-             Another great weekend! It was sure nice to have some cooler temperatures and a little rain in there. It’s keeping everything so green, even the yards and grasses. In many years, it’s dryer during July and the heat turns things brown but this year it sure is staying green and luscious. I hope that you were able to get outside and work on your vitamin D activation. Don’t forget about using coconut oil on suntan areas and eating salt to keep yourself hydrated.             Our topic for August is Brain Health and is important as the kids, hopefully, get back to school and for the adults to get back to work from vacations and such. I’m including an article that talks about correcting metabolism to help with immune system strengthening and this goes for all systems in the body, even brain health and proper function. Let’s face i...
