Sunshine and Vitamin D

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation-                 I hope that you enjoyed your weekend and have found your winter coats. It looks like this cold weather won’t stay with us for long but it’s a wake-up call that winter is coming. Of course, the stores have Christmas stuff out already-even a month or two ago. That seems to get earlier every year. At Natural Health, were gearing up for the winter season and helping folks prevent nasty bouts of colds and flu. I always look at the trees and they still have their leaves on so were not headed into winter quite yet but it will be here soon. If you haven’t been in lately for a health check, now is the time to make sure that we get your immune system strengthened and get your energy up for all the upcoming holidays. They seem to always cause lots of stress and wear people down.                 Don’t forget that we are having our health shops on Monday evenings at 6:15 live on Facebook and Instagram and then will send the recording ov

Defense

Hi Natural Health Family. I hope everyone is doing well. So we are wrapping up Chiropractic month this October. I think we can all agree that society and the life around us has changed substantially in the last couple of years. It seems like we are in a world where many people are becoming more aware of different aspects in life and how we view health, economics, technology, education, politics, etc. has started to make shifts. It appears that we are resonating more with the understanding that our health is our responsibility and to be informed as much as we can individually. When there are so many difference of opinions and the statistics showing the decline of our health as a nation we have to look at why this could be the case in the first place. We are more powerful than we know and it is up to us to work together to help us realize our own potential for health.  Have you ever heard “the best defense is a good offense?” Think about the best sports teams in the world if you would

The Crucial Role of Vitamin D in Physical and Mental Health

STORY AT-A-GLANCE Vitamin D is a potent immunomodulator, influencing both your innate and adaptive immune responses. As such, vitamin D deficiency has been linked to health conditions such as osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases and cancer Vitamin D is also crucial for the maintenance of healthy bones and nervous system function Sun exposure is the primary source of vitamin D, and while sunburn needs to be avoided, this risk needs to be balanced with the need for vitamin D production In the critically ill, vitamin D deficiency has been shown to increase infection and mortality rates, and is associated with longer hospital stays Chinese researchers concluded that vitamin D status can predict your risk of death from COVID-19, as well as the severity of your symptoms in the acute phase. Having a vitamin D level lower than 36.04 ng/mL was predictive for death For decades, the conventional medical establishment and media have downplayed if not entirely ignored eviden

Relax

Welcome back everyone at Natural Health! Over the past weekend I got the privilege of celebrating a friend's wedding day and had a great time. It is still chiropractic month and wanted to keep the discussion directed in regards to chiropractic. It is great being adjusted and one aspect of living a healthy life is our ability to adjust ourselves to the many activities of life.  Patience can take on many aspects and be used in various ways. It doesn’t always have to mean waiting for something in the future. It can also be practiced by being grateful for all we have now. We can even utilize it everyday by being observant with what life offers us rather than bemoaning certain conditions. It can be enjoying the process more and making peace with where we are now. Sometimes we are given more direction to do or not to do something which helps us to realize that what we wanted before may not be exactly in our best interest. It is a practice that when used can help others see that they ha

More Powerful Than We Know

Good day Natural Health! Imagine everyone is having a great start to the fall season. The temperature and weather is definitely changing, Midwest weather what a surprise haha. With that being said we want to help our body to adapt to anything in the environment. Today let’s dive into two perspectives that show us different ways of how the body stays healthy.  One way to view health is from the means that there is something outside of us such as viruses, bugs, etc. that cause health issues to be expressed. We would be more familiar with the understanding of a cold or flu. There could also be other instances where we get some sort of infection due to our immune system being compromised. This would make us think that we are victims to the world around us. Now of course there are extremes. For example, drinking coffee is a reasonable activity that has a chemical in it called caffeine that our body wants to get rid of. In small amounts it can be beneficial for people’s health. However,

Bugs and Your Immune system

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation                 I hope that you had a great weekend and are starting to enjoy the fall colors. In Quincy, we had the Tin Dusters car show people in and you can always connect this time of the pretty colors of the cars to the pretty colors of the trees as they start to turn. As usually happens every year, we get a cold spell and maybe a frost or two and then we get Indian summer, and I hope that’s the case this year. I’m not quite ready for all the cold weather yet, or ever-ha. We also noticed over the years that when it does get cold, the colds and flu start up again and we have great products to help our patients keep a strong immune system to ward those things off or get over them quickly. Bugs are not something we should fear, back should help our immune systems to strengthen. But we must have the correct nerve flow so that the body can coordinate the healing efforts, and the proper building blocks so the body can activate the immune syste

Just One Drop — The Science of Homeopathy

STORY AT-A-GLANCE Homeopathy is one of the most misunderstood areas of medical practice Homeopathy was revered in the late18th century but has since been demonized, especially in the United States Unlike traditional medicine (allopathy) that combats disease with opposing treatments, homeopathy uses similar remedies under the principle that “like cures like” Homeopathy is in wide use in European and Asian countries and even practiced by Britain's royal family Despite claims that there’s no scientific evidence for homeopathy’s effectiveness, there are 300 double-blind and placebo-controlled trials published in peer- reviewed medical journals showing its benefits The widely cited 2015 Australian National Health and Medical Research Council information paper that found no evidence of homeopathy’s effectiveness was marred by conflicts of interest and questionable methodology, according to a documentary Editor’s Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published June 8, 2019.

Back To Health

Welcome back Natural Health Family. Imagine everyone is doing well and enjoyed the past weekend. Fall is definitely here with the cooler temperatures. Changes in the seasons bring different opportunities and activities. It is important to stay healthy as we fall into this change and onto the next. October is still chiropractic month and with that being said let’s talk more about what it all really means as a way to help ourselves be healthy and well.  Many times when we think of chiropractic we go to the aspects of helping to align our bodies so that we feel better and move better. This is a great attribute of chiropractic but only one characteristic of what it brings to the table. The study of chiropractic is about helping the whole person get well. It is believed that Thomas Edison once said “ The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” This quote highlights more as

Having Sinus Issues?

Hello Everyone in Natural Health Nation-                 Another beautiful weekend but we just can’t seem to get any rain. Things are so dry again and the harvesting has pumped a lot of dust and pollen into the air. We’re getting a lot of complaints of sinus issues and using a lot of great nutritional products to help the body handle it. Don’t forget that when you breathe dust and pollen in, the body’s immune system gets a hold of it and takes it to the lymphatics which drain into the liver so through the bowel, it can get it all out, so you need good liver support. We have many great products for that to help the liver to work correctly and at a higher capacity, rather than using medication to force things to work a certain way. At Natural Health, we feel that working with the body and supporting its activities and functions are much healthier than trying to suppress a symptom which can lead to worse problems later. If you remember the bucket analogy, we want your bucket to be dra

How Proper Sleep Lowers Infection

STORY AT-A-GLANCE Research shows sleep enhances the efficiency of T cell responses, allowing your immune system to kill foreign invaders such as viruses with greater ease Ga(s)-coupled receptor agonists such as adrenaline and prostaglandin — which decrease during sleep — prevent immune cells from activating a sticky protein called integrin that allows the T cell to attach to the viral target Higher levels of molecules that inhibit integrin activation are also found in malaria and cancer, for example, which suggests this pathway may contribute to the immune suppression associated with these pathologies as well People who awaken during the first sleep cycle also tend to have lower levels of natural killer cells, and deep sleep has been shown to strengthen immunological memories of previously encountered pathogens Previous research has found the circadian clocks of mice control an essential immune system gene that helps their bodies sense and ward off bacteria and viruses Editor’s Note:
