Hi Natural Health Family! Happy Easter to all. It appears that Spring is making a slow and steady showing. We have said before but this time of the year is about change and starting new. Many of us will start to do activities we have not been able to do in a long while. One aspect that is important for all people is the aspect of recreation or what some would call, play.
When we break down the word recreation we can see that it is the process of re-creating. So recreation can mean simply that we are doing or making something different. When we play sports we go from the busy day to day life to placing all our focus and energy on the sport. The sport itself does not help in a productive way as we may see it. It does, however, allow us to move in different ways and frees ourselves from having to figure out what we need to do next or what problem is needed to fix. It doesn’t just have to be sports. It can also be any form of activity in which we are creating something new. This could include any form of art, any skill that we want to master, a spring project, so on and so forth. It is the act of doing something that requires more of a creative mindset rather than an analytical or critical one.
Recreation sometimes makes us feel like we should be doing something else. Although work and our job are important, many times if we are not able to have some recreation or play then we start to notice our productivity at work drops. Many people know this and that is why companies have days when people can take time off. When we are not able to have fun, enjoy what we are doing, or play our mind becomes taxing on the body. It starts to drain our energy and we become fatigued. This is why it is important to our health to have something we enjoy doing throughout the day, week, month, and year.
Recreation or play is important for us not only as a process of change but also for our own health and well-being. When we take time for recreation or to play we can start to feel more enjoyment. When we become good at anything it becomes more fun. We start to think less of it and rather have fun with it. The funny part is that the more we have fun with anything the better we are at it and the better we are at it the more fun we can have. So whatever you are doing this week, I encourage you to have fun with it.
Thanks for reading.
Dr. Chip
