Hey everyone. I got a short one for you this week. Our Healthshop on Feb 22nd will be talking about the Heart Sound Recorder. This machine is quite remarkable when it comes to how technology has risen to maximize the effectiveness of checking out the sounds the heart is admitting. Back in the day, the machine used to be the size of a coffee table with 2 rolled up papers on each side of the table. The paper would proceed from one side to the other. There was a needle in the middle of the machine that would work the same way as you would detect earthquakes. The Heart Sound Recorder is going off the vibrations coming from the valves. We look at all four valves: Mitral, Aortic, Tricuspid and Pulmonic. They all have their own distinct ways of opening and closing. This microphone is very sensitive and picks up the sounds from those very little valves that are in the heart. When I do your scan, I mainly look at the Rate, Rhythm and Tone.
